Golden Litter

I’m messy. Period.

In the last year, after a friend introduce me to the Konmari method, I’ve been slowly applying it. Spoiler alert: everything sparks joy. I have to admit it works: my chest of drawers has never been so tidy with all the clothes neatly folded in small packets. Most of my house, however, still needs reorganization: my desk, for example, which I use to work, study, gaming and craft. I do try to organize it about once a week when I reached the point that I can’t find a single blue pen anymore.

“Can’t you write in any of the 65 colours you have you ask?” Ehm, no, I can’t.

Anyway, what I wanted to talk about here… Oh, yeah, rubbish. So, the other day I was sitting at my desk modelling little ties with clay for some bookmarks I’m doing for a Pub Quiz my roller derby team is organizing, and I had this little ball of leftover clay. As I’m in a Harry Potter craft period, I thought it could be a Golden Snitch. I haven’t taken any picture of the process, mostly because I wasn’t too convinced anything good would come out, but here it’s what I’ve done.

  1. Pierced the little ball with a toothpick. I had a few I used to model the clay.
  2. For the wings, I used a small piece of really thin paper of the kind used in new wallets. I double it around both sides of the toothpick that were sticking out of the ball and then glued with a glue stick. This one was in a Harry Potter card holder. Penneys has loads of new HP stuff, so I had to make sure I brought more clutter in my house. Sorry, Marie Kondo, but a lot of things spark joy.
  3. Once everything was dry, I painted it with gold paint and then with an acrylic varnish to make it glossy.
  4. Finally, I’ve cut the wings.

Ta-da!

It looks really cute considering it’s made out of scraps, and as I’m really fond of recycling, upcycling, zero waste, I’m happy that this a tiny little bit of rubbish now is shining on my nerd shrine instead of ending up in a landfill.
