Following a recent post in which I confessed how I was sucked in the world of yarnfluencers, I decided to start a series of posts where I write about a finished project that was in some way inspired by meandering in the online crafting community.
The first project I’m writing about is not strictly a knitting project, but it used yarn and stitches, so it’s knitting adjacent.
The Hexi Cardi is a crochet project I finished back in January, and this type of cardigans seems to have been pretty common in the crochet online community and it’s a very quick make. Being made to measure means is also very adaptable.
Quick info:
- Cost of material: 23.80 Euro
- Started: 16th December 2023
- Finished: 14 January 2024
- Yarn: 2 cakes of Järbo Cookie colorway liquorice bought on Hobbii
- Link to project on Raverly.
How I made it
I used the Horizon cardigan pattern from Hobbii as a starting point, and then winged it as I wanted a shorter version. This video from Craft and a Cuppa helped me a lot!
I made the handcuffs longer, and finally made a border with a round of 2 double crochet clusters, and then several rounds of FPDC (front post double crochet) until I used up all the yarn.
Since I had two cakes, I used a cake for each hexagon so I could work on them in parallel: it made it easy to see the fit, especially since it was partially improvised.
The variegated yarn fits beautifully with granny’s squares.
How I wear it
I haven’t worn it yet as it’s too thick to wear under a coat, so I’m planning to wear it as a spring light jacket.
Will I make it again?
Likely not. At least not for me.
It’s a very satisfying make as it grows very quickly, in general crochet is quicker than knitting. However, it’s not really my style so one is enough.
