First Second* month of my shop, and still no sales. But that’s expected.
According to the internet, it takes 1-3 months for a first sale with 15 items in the shop. I have 5 items, 4 unique designs.
I’m also not great at the whole promotion/social media thing, so followers and views are growing very slowly.
I haven’t tried Etsy ads yet, but I don’t think it’s worth it until I have at least 5 or more items.
The process has been enjoyable, in particular the fact it got me to draw every day. Not patterns, but I’m focused on improving my drawing, and in particular digital drawing.
I’m also still the same: starting many new projects, and then feeling overwhelmed by all the WIPs. But I (force) finished one that’s been on going for a few years. More to come.
The results are questionable as I’m extremely slow, and while I was able to have the first two patterns out quickly enough, the next ones have been plagued insecurities so they get through several iterations.
But it’s been teaching me something important: that drawing is a process, and I need to be patient. I used to get very frustrated if something didn’t come out in paper as it was in my head, concluding I wasn’t good enough and giving up.
Now I’m being more thoughtful about the whole process, purposefully taking several days. I’m also watching online classes and tutorials to improve my techniques. I’m now trying to learn how to draw fires, both digitally and paperly. Maybe I’ll write a post about my journey in learning how to draw properly at the tender age of 40+.
I’ll wrap up this little update post with one thing that I finished, taking my time, and I quite like: an Art Noveau inspired banner for my Etsy shop.
* I obviously started writing this post for the first month-versary, but hey, you know me.
