I was about to start writing this post when I decided to do a quick search if I already used the same title, and I indeed did. However, that post was about the undoing of socks, here I’m knitting socks (obsessively).
I’m now at pair number 3, which is almost done, but I got sidetracked by a hat (done) and a shawl (WIP).
Knitting is one of my first craft loves: I’ve been knitting (on and off) since I was 6/7 years old. I’ve always seen my mom and my grandma doing it, and I wanted to do it to. My mom got me a kid’s set with a pair of plastic needles along with a bit of childhood drama: always been a very messy person, I left them on the couch and she sat on them and broke them 😅
The struggle has always been finding a project of the right size due to my gold fish attention span.
Knitting a sock is the right amount of knitting challenge I need: not a plain square in stockinette like a scarf, but not a multi-piece-prone-to-distraction piece like a sweater. But… But the risk is the second sock, because generally I don’t like to do the same thing twice. Hence, my Box of Unfinished Projects contains several One Sock-S. But this time, surpassingly enough, I finished it not once, not twice… actually yeah, twice, since the third pair isn’t finished yet, but almost.
To keep track of my projects, and keeping myself accountable, I have been maintaining a project log in my Hobonichi journal for the last 3 years, with some basic information like type, pattern, materials&supplies, some notes, a START date, and some times even a FINISH date. Every year, at the end of the year, I move the unfinished projects to the new Hobonichi.
Sock #1: Pattern from a book I had bought a long time ago when I decided I wanted to make all the socks. Spoiler alert: I didn’t… but maybe it was an investment for the future.
Sock #2: Lace Warmers by DROPS Design
Sock #3: Cable Cuffed Boots by Annie’s
