A Dream Come True

On January 2020 after a long preparation, I set out to begin my journey to eventually put my foot on the first step of the property ladder. At the time, COVID was just a “This is just flu, it’ll pass”, and after going on Sale Agreed on my dream house before the first month of the year was over, I already saw myself moved in by end of March, ready to spend a summer DIYing it.

Needless to say, that’s not how the story went.

By end of March, the realisation that COVID wasn’t going to pass anytime soon dawned on me, and it was just the beggining of an excruciating process of getting all papers done to get the estate agency to change their sign to SOLD. It took another 8 months of “We’ll close in the next few weeks” to finally get the DAMN keys.

So the chance of a summer of DIYing was gone, and it was all the more inconvenient due to the additional time the quarantine bestowed on us. But hey, 2021 came and the quarantine was still here, so plenty of time, right? Wrong! But that’s another blog… I mean story.

Anyway, after a not so ideal first 3 quarters of 2021, I’ve finally set in motion the big project Dream House.

Furniture-wise, all rooms have been furnished or almost. Bit by bit, even if Ikea was closed, I could order what I needed. And who doesn’t love a bit of grown-up Lego! But it’s not really using my creative skills to make my place more mine.

A few weeks ago, while preparing myself for bed, a feeling that this house wasn’t “mine” yet crept on me, so I jumped into a rabbit hole of black painted bathrooms and bicolour hallways on Pinterest. Of course, I obsessed for days, waking up at night plotting and plotting, until one day I finally went to a DIY store to buy tester paint pots, and other bits and pieces, and then threw everything in the closet and forgot for a couple of weeks.

Today, it finally happened.

Kinda.

I tried the colours.

But that’s a first step to make this first rung of my ladder home. Stay tuned to see what’s going to happen* to my little haven.

* I should probably mention I never painted a wall in my life. Wish me luck.
