I’ve been sewing quite a lot recently. A bit because I enjoy it and a bit because I want to buy as less as possible but still look cool.
Project 2 from my Make Nine challenge was a loose top. It was so easy and quick to sew that I made another one in black… of course!
Both tops are made from a self-drafted pattern from a combination of a top and a jumper. Quick sew even with knitted jersey. I’m not particularly fond of sewing stretch fabric, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it.
I made first the green one and then the black one with some variations.
Overall, it was very simple: two pieces for the pattern cut from brown paper, back and front. The bands for the bottom and the sleeves are just rectangle. For the black one, the sleeve bands are the same stretchy lace of the band on the back.
Also, after years of owning my sewing machine, a Janome 2200xt, I’m finally experimenting with different stitches and I used a zip zag one to finish the collar for both. I think it gives it a look of “She totally knows what she is doing there”, just the look really…
Stretchy fabric types are still a bit of a mystery for me as I’m trying to figure out what is best for what. As you can see in picture 1, the black top is slightly transparent in comparison to the green one.
Definitely, more loose top experimentations will be on my sewing table. For now, I’m going back to my current sewing project (Bralette Nr. 4) since my half-arsed plan of going for a run has just been literally washed down the drains by pouring rain.
