It was yesterday, in the dead of night – it was actually 9 pm, although with the short winter days and my age, let’s say: it was night, a cold and dark night, when I reached 50093 words written for my first attempt at NaNoWriMo.
If you don’t know what NaNoWriMo – I didn’t until up to October and I’ve only learned to write the acronym right towards mid-November, it’s a pledge to write 50k words from the 1st to the 30st of November, about the length of a novel. And I did it one day in advance!
Why am I posting this in a blog about craft inspiration even if there’s no scrap paper, glue, paints and an unfinished project involved?
When I signed up, I did it with the conviction I would never be able to reach it, but it would have been still good to build the habit to write a little every day, something else than long work emails complaining about someone translating something wrong. I was sick the first three days, so I really had little hope to be able to write enough to meet the goal with work, college and all the other matters humans need to take care to survive. So, in a way, this is inspirational! And above all, it didn’t end up in my box of unfinished projects.
You have a blog, or try to, why didn’t you just write a post every day?
Good question. The posts in here are meant to about my latest projects, with pictures, descriptions and tips, so they tend to take longer to write. Also, I don’t have 30 completed projects to talk about. Maybe a series on attempted projects…? *Add to list of ideas that’ll never see the light.*
Are you pretending to be interviewing yourself?
Yes. Don’t judge me.
What’s next?
Studying for the exams on the 18th, pick up my camera again, and maintain the good habit to write a little every day: the 50k from NaNoWriMo are just part of the “novel” I’m plotting to write. It feels very weird to say “novel” (novel, novel, novel…) as I still don’t believe I can do this.
Imposter’s syndrome? Maybe! But for now I’m reaping the benefit of having written every day.
