Like a Swiss clock, here I am with the first (very short) post about my leggings making process: the pattern.
The whole thing was very simple. On a bit of brown paper folded in half, I traced one leg of my favourite pair of leggings.
Then again opened the paper and always using the leggings traced the back and the front in pencil. They are different! The back is a slightly higher to accommodate your bum.
Then I did the modifications I wanted: a lower waist by measuring both on myself and on the leggings (to be on the safe side). The black arrow point to the lower waist, and the blue to the original length of the leggings.
This is the final result without seam allowances.
I made a little mistake on the back side, so that’s why there are two lines, but other than that this is ready to go. However, this will work on very stretchy fabric, so I will need to modify the pattern to add centimetres as the ribbed fabric is not so stretchy. Since it’s my first pair of leggings (or trousers in general), I’d prefer to err on the bigger side by adding some allowance before the cutting. There is no pattern for the waist band as I will cut it once I have the legs sewed together. I’m also thinking to add some back pockets, but will see how this will proceed!
Next episode: cutting the fabric. A bit of a challenge ahead as the ribs will need to align.
